Welcome to the Junior Foundation Squad, the ideal program for young athletes who are eager to elevate their netball game. Designed specifically for players aged 9 and above (or turning 9 during the term), this squad is tailored for those who have completed at least one full season of netball and are ready to take the next step in their development. 

 Our 6-week program is all about laying down the core foundations that will serve as the building blocks for a successful netball journey. We combine fun with structure to ensure that each session is engaging, educational, and beneficial for every participant. Whether your child is looking to refine their skills or gain more confidence on the court, the Junior Foundation Squad provides the perfect environment for growth and progression.

Program Breakdown: Week-by-Week Overview

Here’s a glimpse of what your child will learn and experience during the 6-week Junior Foundation Squad program:

Week 1: Getting Started – Core Skills and Understanding the Game

  • Introduction to the basic principles of netball.
  • Drills focused on passing, catching, and footwork.
  • Emphasis on spatial awareness and understanding court positions.

Week 2: Footwork Fundamentals – Movement and Balance

  • Detailed focus on footwork, including pivoting, landing, and change of direction.
  • Exercises aimed at improving balance and coordination.
  • Introduction to agility drills that enhance on-court movement.

Week 3: Passing and Catching – Accuracy and Timing

  • Mastering different types of passes (chest, bounce, shoulder).
  • Timing drills to improve reaction time and catching under pressure.
  • Small-sided games to practice passing and catching in dynamic scenarios.

Week 4: Defensive Skills – Interception and Marking

  • Key defensive techniques, including marking and interception.
  • Drills to improve hand-eye coordination and timing for interceptions.
  • Introduction to defensive positioning and working as a unit.

Week 5: Attacking Play – Creating and Using Space

  • Techniques to create and use space effectively during gameplay.
  • Emphasis on off-the-ball movement and leading for the ball.
  • Practicing attacking sequences and shooting under pressure.

Week 6: Game Day – Putting It All Together

  • Simulated game scenarios to apply all the skills learned in previous weeks.
  • Focus on teamwork, communication, and decision-making under pressure.
  • Reflection on progress, key takeaways, and areas for future improvement.
